Publications consolidate evidence to support planning, transparency, and results monitoring in the forestry sector.

The Brazilian Forest Service (SFB) published, this Wednesday (31), three new bulletins from the National Forest Information System (SNIF), presenting data and analyses on forest concessions, rural credit for forestry activities, and female participation in the forestry sector. The publications compile historical series, updated indicators, and thematic breakdowns to support public management decisions, sectoral planning, and results monitoring.

In this context, the Director of Forest Development at the Brazilian Forest Service (SFB), Clarisse Cruz, highlights that the publication of the three bulletins reinforces the role of SNIF as a public platform for data and analyses on the forestry sector, with comparable datasets and historical series. “When we bring together data that is dispersed across different databases and transform it into comparable evidence, management gains predictability, the sector gains a reference for planning, and society gains transparency to monitor results,” she states.

Forest concessions

The bulletin on forest concessions consolidates information on contracts, concession areas, production, revenue generation, and the socioeconomic effects of the instrument. As of December 2025, there are 24 active contracts, totaling 1,331,009.93 hectares under concession.

Between 2011 and 2024, concessions recorded 2.8 million cubic meters of timber production. From 2010 to 2024, public revenues associated with concessions totaled R$ 235.2 million.

In 2023, the bulletin reports 1,616 direct jobs and 3,232 indirect jobs in federal concessions, totaling 4,848 positions. The publication also compiles evidence on labor market dynamics and deforestation in municipalities with concession areas, contributing to the monitoring of this instrument across territories.

Rural credit for forestry activities

The edition dedicated to rural credit in the forestry sector analyzes operations recorded in the Rural Credit and Proagro Operations System (Sicor), maintained by the Central Bank, between the 2012/2013 and 2024/2025 crop years, with values adjusted to June 2025 using the IPCA.

Investment credit reached a peak of R$ 3,650.78 million in the 2023/2024 crop year. For working capital, the highest volume was R$ 1,986.54 million in 2013/2014. Compared to total rural credit, the share of forestry investment credit reached 3.2% in 2023/2024; for working capital, the maximum share was 1.3% in 2013/2014.

The bulletin also describes the concentration by financed products and regional differences in access to credit, as well as pointing out limitations in the level of detail in aggregated categories such as “timber.”

Female participation in the forestry sector

The bulletin on female participation in the forestry sector compiles indicators on employment, education, and occupational distribution, based on national databases and on SFB-specific activities, such as the National Forest Inventory and forest concessions.

In 2023, the sector recorded 171,112 female employment ties, corresponding to 21.4% of the total workforce, representing a 28.4% increase compared to 2018. Three activities linked to the manufacturing industry accounted for 63% of female employment in the sector in 2023.

In terms of occupations, there were 1,595 roles associated with the sector; 16.7% had a female majority, and 33% recorded no female participation in 2023. Regarding education, the publication notes an increase in the proportion of women among Forestry Engineering graduates, from 40% to 56% between 2009 and 2024.
